Well, what can I say about Drew and Ant’s  wedding  at  Yorebridge House  apart from, WOW! Drew and Ant are such an awesome couple so it stands to reason that their wedding venue should be equally as awesome. And Yorebridge House is certainly that. The venue and staff were just fantastic.

As I drove through the Yorkshire Dales to Yorebridge House on the morning of Drew and Ant’s wedding the rain and fog closed in. The river by the venue was absolutely raging but they didn’t mind too much when I dragged them down to it through mud and nettles for some photos. From start to finish I loved photographing at Yorebridge House. Drew and Ant had obviously put a lot of effort and their own personalities into their wedding with details that completely complemented the time of year. There were nods to Harry Potter, The Golden Compass and Disney.

Here are Drew and Ant to tell you all about their Yorebridge House wedding:

How did you both meet?
Grindr; the location-based gay dating app. Ant was up north for the weekend visiting his family and to meet with friends at Manchester Pride. Wisely we both privately decided not to meet in the midst of a drunken haze at Pride weekend, but spoke via texts for the next three months before finally meeting up for our first date on October 14th. Four years later we would get married on this same date.

What was the proposal like?
I decided to propose to Ant while sat round with friends and joking about the idea of getting married. Realisation rapidly dawning on me that this was something I really wanted, I began to plan the proposal for our two year anniversary. Yorebridge House, a boutique hotel in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, for me, was perfect. In all honesty the proposal weekend would not only double as recon for a perspective wedding venue, but also add a personal and romantic weight to a venue I thought would be perfect for our wedding.
After an amazing meal I asked Ant to marry me by presenting him with a personalised Disney Vinylmation (something he’d been collecting for years) hidden in a photo album.

How did you find wedding planning?
Ant
We both have a keen attention to detail, so knew we wanted a theme which amalgamated our favourite things, and would be carried through from Save The Dates to every element of the big day itself. We landed on a combination of Disney, Books and Autumn – coined “enchanted woodland library”. We designed our own look and feel for the wedding on photoshop, and used it to self-create all of the wedding stationery (bookmark-style save the dates, book-style invites, order of the day booklets, menus, signs, place names, even wrapping paper for the wedding favours; a classic book for each guest). This, on top of a hefty spreadsheet/to-do list, made planning run pretty smoothly.

Drew
I loved wedding planning. After deciding on the date and the venue we sat down at the computer together to design the ‘Save the Dates’. This turned into a whole day of font searching, colour matching, flower choosing and theming. This remains one of my favourite days we have spent together.

Why did you choose Yorebridge House for your wedding venue?
After getting engaged at Yorebridge House, we fell in love with the venue. An old Grammar school, sat next to the headmasters house, the boutique hotel has an understated grandeur about it.
Set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire dales, and sat at the joining of the River Ure and the River Bain, the hotel, while being large enough to host our guests, was small enough to feel personal and intimate.
The staff were wonderful, the food was amazing and every room is individually and lovingly styled by the owners. We knew this venue would not only be the perfect place for us to get married, but also give our guests a weekend they would treasure.

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Drew
I honestly can’t choose. People had said to me it will be the best day you have ever had, they were right. The morning getting ready with my groomsmen and groomsmaids, waiting with them all to enter the ceremony, the ceremony itself, entering the dining room all our friends stood cheering us, the speeches, the party. Epic day.

Ant
It was really lovely to have our wedding parties stay the night before & night of the wedding, so we could all share in the excitement. Another favourite part for me was the wedding breakfast, where one of the best men and maid of honour introduced every single guest to the room (in between courses), which really made everyone feel part of the day, and helped introduce those who hadn’t met before. The speeches were also amazing – thankfully, given we had 5 of them!

What song did you have for your first dance and why did you choose it?
We decided not to have an official first dance. Unofficially though, our first dance will forever be Britney’s ‘Work B**ch’ (the epitome of romance, we know). This was the song that was enthusiastically danced to by us both, while friends and family circled round us cheering.

Who were your favourite wedding suppliers?
We did so much of our wedding ourselves (stationery, decorations, music) but our wedding day wouldn’t have been the same without the amazing Allison Emerson of Angels and Roses. She exceed expectations of a florist, not only providing beautiful flowers, but also playing a pivotal role in bringing our theme to life, with custom-designed autumnal decorations for the main room (including epic leafy branch creations which hung from the chandeliers, and an autumnal tree).

Our three-tiered chocolate fudge wedding cake by ‘Just Deserts’ was also a massive hit with the guests.

Is there anything else you’d like to add about your wedding?
Capturing memories from the day was a top priority for us, so we searched extensively to find a photographer who would do this in the way we wanted. Kyle exceeded our expectations. His relaxed style really made us feel comfortable, even when posing for photos in the centre of Manchester on our pre-wedding shoot! On the day itself, Kyle’s “photo-ninja” style meant he captured natural, candid moments expertly, without putting any pressure on us or the guests; also managing to capture plenty of more traditional ‘posed’ shots fitting around the events on the day. Receiving the photos was a brilliant experience – the highlights video was wonderful, and we were so pleased with the whole collection of photos.
