Shrigley Hall Wedding Photography
I had never photographed a wedding at Shrigley Hall before Ste and Carrie’s winter wedding back in December 2016. It is a beautiful venue and it really helped that we had some gorgeous winter light.
Here are Carrie and Ste with some words about their wedding:
How did you both meet?
We met at work when I started working at the local basketball and netball centre and became really good friends before we started dating.
What was the proposal like?
Ste had booked a weekend away for both sets of parents and his sister as a mother’s day and birthday gift for Kate. We went to stay in Kenyon hall in Sheffield and it was a week before our son turned 1 in 2013. We had a lovely day at the venue and at dinner for deserts the waiter was acting a little strange when he kept waiting for everyone to return to the table but grandparents were walking Reilly around. After not ordering a desert a platter arrived in front of me with a box in it! Ste got on one knee and proposed, although as I was in total shock and blubbering like an idiot I still have no idea what he actually said!
How did you find wedding planning?
We arranged our wedding quite quickly, we decided in the August of 2016 that we were going to get married and we booked it within 4 weeks for the 29th December of 2016. I had my dress before we had booked the venue. We didn’t get stressed over many things, although I would say stick to your budget, talk through any ideas together as a couple, keep things simple, and decide which aspects are important to you. We wanted a lovely venue but had a very limited budget so saved on certain things like ordering fake flowers which I love as I will always have them, I found my dream dress in a sale so came in at cost and the food we chose what suited us rather than trying to please others. We decided to invest in our photographer rather than a band as the pictures will last a lifetime and had seen how amazing Kyle was at capturing peoples weddings.
Take some time as a couple once you are married even if you sneak away for half an hour as the day passes so quickly, I was over the moon both our children could be involved in ours so it made it about us as a family not just myself and Ste.
Why did you choose Shrigley Hall for your wedding venue?
We had a look around 4-5 venues, always knowing we wanted to have the civil ceremony and reception all in one hotel venue. We went up to Shrigley hall for an open event and we were shown around by John the manager. He immediately made us feel at ease, spent over an hour talking through our ideas, numbers etc and designed a bespoke package within our budget to meet our needs.
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
I think being able to share our day with the people we treasure most, my husband felt being able to see our 14 month old walking down the isle was a memorable experience. Walking into to room for our reception was amazing to see everyone we wanted there to share our day.
What song did you have for your first dance and why did you choose it?
Over And Over Again by Nathan Sykes. We chose this as it has amazing lyrics and was a recent song that not many people had used as a first dance song. The problem we have now is every time we play it our son cries! The emotion of the day always gets to him.
The lady who made the cake is a friend who made the perfect cake for us, Natalie Chorlton, cupcakes by Natalie via Facebook. The lady who altered my dress with 2 weeks notice was amazing too, all sewn up. And the manager at Shrigley whom nothing was too much trouble, John O’Reilly
