An amazing Manchester City Centre Wedding Venue
What can I say about King Street Townhouse apart from what an amazing wedding venue it is. I was lucky enough to be Dionne and Tony’s photographer there on one of the hottest days of the year in August. There was a moment as I stood on the rooftop terrace, photographing Dionne and Tony and watching the sun set over the Manchester skyline, that I though, “I have THE best job in the world”. (With professional ale taster coming a close second!)
As a Manchester lad myself, I love everything about city centre weddings. The buildings and urban architecture are really something that you can capture fantastically with your camera. King Street Townhouse is an amazing Italian renaissance building, originally built in 1872 and designed by Manchester architect Edward Salomons. It is a modern, luxurious wedding venue in the metropolitan, King Street area of the city.
Photographing The Morning of The Wedding
In the morning I met Tony and his Ushers in The Tavern of King Street Townhouse to get pictures of them relaxing with a couple of beers while Tony greeted his guests including the amazing Sarah and Clark, whose wedding I photographed a couple of years ago. Dionne’s arrival nearly caught me off guard when she got out of the wedding car around the corner because she was too excited for the traffic to clear. As Dionne arrived at the venue she realised that her bouquet was still at home, but being the laid back kind of bride that she was, that did nothing to phase her.
Tying the knot
Dionne and Tony said their wedding vows in the wonderfully dark ceremony room and it was great to see their celebrant was none other that the amazing Stephen Poole, who I have seen at so many weddings in Manchester it is unreal. While they signed the register, their guests were entertained by The Rolling Keys.
The Drinks Reception
After the marriage ceremony it was time for congratulations, canapés and of course beers on the terrace. It was an absolute scorcher of a day so the awnings were rolled out to provide some shade, although they ended up doing a great job of keeping the heat in. At this point of the day, I usually like to photograph my couples in a documentary as they mingle with their guests so that they can really relax and enjoy themselves. Because that’s what weddings are all about isn’t it. During the drinks reception, it was great to hear The Rolling Keys performing again and keeping all of the wedding guests entertained.
The Speeches
After the amazing wedding breakfast it was time for the speeches. Tony’s best men gave outstanding speeches where I got great documentary images of the bride, groom and their wedding guests laughing and wanting to crawl under the table at some of the stories.
Wedding Portraits at King Street Townhouse
When the light had dropped a little we headed out of King Street Townhouse for a little fresh air in the street. After spending a few minutes capturing some natural photographs of Dionne and Tony it was time to join the party again while the evening guests arrived. I like to keep portrait sessions really short and relaxed to make my couples feel as comfortable as possible. When golden hour rolled around and the sun was setting over the buildings of Manchester, we headed up onto the 6th floor rooftop for some epic photos overlooking Manchester Town Hall. Then, it was party time.
The Evening Reception
As the evening rolled around it was time for the wedding party to really start. Dionne and Tony had a saxophonist paying Ibiza music to get people nice and warmed up before their wedding band kept everyone dancing. I got some great photographs of Dionne and Tony bouncing around the King Street Townhouse with their guests.
